Roles and Responsibilities

Each member of theHealth Care Team is responsible for protecting patients from infection by:

• Making themselves aware of the contents of this policy
• Following procedures competently
• Complying with the procedures outlined in this policy
• Bringing to the attention of the Unit Manager or Infection Control Team any problems in applying this policy

In particular, the Nursing Team responsible for the patient’s care has responsibility for:

• Ensuring that everyone has information and the facilities required to follow the procedures

The Unit Manager (eg person in charge of a ward or department) has the responsibility to ensure that:

• This policy is accessible to all staff
• The required facilities and equipment are available to enable compliance with the policies
• All clinical staff within their area of responsibility have received training in the appropriate procedures with respect to infection control
• Compliance with this policy is appropriately audited

The Infection Control Team is responsible for ensuring that:

• Keeping the policies under regular review
• Revising this policy so that it complies with current national, professional and guidelines and standards
• Promulgating amendments
